Well rip tumblr, no more “adult content” on here. Fucking great. Sorry guys this app is only for children now :/ no more porn as of December 17th

Yes I just read the staff post. Total bullshit. It’s like they don’t know their user base at all. Tumblr apparently wants to be some kind of pink fluffy censorship nightmare and I feel appalled.

I could censor myself but I really don’t want to. Tumblr was great for my purposes. Yes, of course it’s a hellhole of stupidity but as I never did The Discourse my existence here was rather peaceful while still getting to enjoy everything I’m interested in from art to writing to Star Wars news. I wish there was another platform that offered such a wide variety of content but right now nothing comparable comes to mind. Every other popular platform seems rather tailored for either art OR writing. And Twitter is just bullshit. Nothing but stanning, fighting and vapid opinions. I use my twitter more less as Tumblr backup.

I liked Tumblr exactly for the same reason other people hated it. Because it was a vast unregulated mess. Well, that’s certainly over now.

Maybe I’ll give pillowfort a try but if that’s the next big thing remains to be seen.

Do you have a list of books, fan fictions, manga, etc, that you can recommend?? Ps love your blog! 👹❤️

Awww thanks!

So about recommendations…this blog’s purpose is actually recommending all kinds of media. I post stuff I like but other people’s recommendations are also welcome. The common theme is in my blog description. If you are looking for something specific it’s best to just have a look at my list of tags (on mobile this link might work better). I tag fairly consistently so I think that’s the easiest way to find what you are looking for (books, movies, comics, etc.).

So far I have 2 book lists:

Books with monsters as love interest

Ugly Badass Girls Getting the Hot Guy in Fantasy and Science Fiction

I can’t really help you (much) with manga and anime because I know the same movies and shows that everybody knows (read: mostly Studio Ghibli) and I hardly ever read manga. Just try my anime tag, there still might be something for you.

About fan fiction: I haven’t read fan fiction in a very long time. The last time I was really into it was after The Force Awakens came out and I really needed some reylo content. Any desire to read fics died with The Last Jedi. That movie delivered so much canon reylo I can wait contently for Episode IX.

The thing is I’ve only ever been looking for fan fiction when something sparked my imagination but canon gave me almost nothing like TFA, Labyrinth, Predator and Riddick. For a short time I may be obsessed but ultimately I’ll always go back looking for original fiction.

I’ll add more recommendations as soon as I find the willpower to make proper posts 😉

you know I love my big monster boys but where’s the love for like the junji-ito monsters? what about the humans that aren’t so human but aren’t immediately a hot demon or sexy fish beast? what about the actual scary humanoids??? sorry but I feel like that subcategory of teratophilia is waaaay to underrated

Ok, first of all thanks for making me aware of Junji Ito. I’m not too much into manga but the art looks great and I dig horror stories. So I’ll definitely check this out.

The thing is that I personally would classify stuff like that as horror. On tumblr teratophilia or monster love is mostly used to describe being horny on main for some monster dick (or pussy). At least that’s what I mean when I use these terms. I’m a simple gal.😋

I did a little searching and found tons of Junji Ito’s art and similar stuff here on tumblr. And judging by the notes it seems this art style is quite popular so I wouldn’t say these kind of monsters are an underrated subcategory of the teratophilia spectrum, they simply belong in a different genre. (I’m not quite sure if teratophilia is its own genre but gawwwd I wish it was…)

Anyway horror is fine by itself but I guess teratophilia means transforming the monsters of horror stories into love interests [insert long and well researched essay about sexual psychology and sociology here].

For the book recommendation with monster theme, I would recommend The Shape of Water! It’s about a mute woman meets an amphibious man and falls in love as they find themselves similar in ways only they can connect. The movie is actually the original but the book is the same but expended on. I enjoyed both but that’s my opinion :)

Hi, thank you so much for your recommendation!
Although The Shape of Water was probably the most anticipated film for teratophiliacs since forever many may not not know that there’s also a book. I think it’s more or less a novelization of the movie but as it’s written by Guillermo del Toro himself it clearly stands out among other novelizations.
It’s been on my to read list for some time but I haven’t gotten around to it yet. When I do I’ll report back. ☺️

Here’s a link for more information about the book:

Hello Harpies! I saw you blogging/tweeting about the french BatB which has made me hope that maybe someday you’ll do an episode about rewritten fairy tales…? Should this ever happen (please) I recommend watching the 2015 movie Tale of Tales (twisted, sensual and very dark) and my favourite collection of reworked fairy tales: Tanith Lee’s Red as Blood. The latter features among other well known stories the tale of a Rapunzel who is claimed by a dark god and a futuristic BatB. Happy podcasting!

metamashina:

Hi, thanks for the recs! All of those sound great.

We’re very much looking forward to recording a Beauty & the Beast episode with @corseque this week, where we’ll definitely cover some iterations of that specific fairy tale and we have Rapunzel episode coming out fairly soon as well.

We’ll probably cover re-tellings as we go, on a story by story basis (i.e., variations of BatB) as opposed to discussing re-tellings as a whole in one episode. We can go more in-depth that way and cover more ground.

Thanks for listening!
