STOLEN SONGBIRD (Malediction Trilogy, #1) by Danielle L. Jensen
For five centuries, a witch’s curse has bound the trolls to their city beneath the mountain. When Cécile de Troyes is kidnapped and taken beneath the mountain, she realises that the trolls are relying on her to break the curse.
Cécile has only one thing on her mind: escape. But the trolls are clever, fast, and inhumanly strong. She will have to bide her time…
But the more time she spends with the trolls, the more she understands their plight. There is a rebellion brewing. And she just might be the one the trolls were looking for…
The book itself is not my favourite as it’s a little bit too teen oriented (mostly character descriptions) for someone as ancient as myself. The premise is fantastic though and being a sucker for the good old girl going underground trope I still enjoyed it.
The Beast sat on his stone throne, his arms lashed to the corners of the room. His bones jutted out from his shoulders and lacerations tore through him, soaking his entire body in blood. Something had sliced open his chest, his ribs gone, showing the still beating heart that lay underneath.
Eris froze. This had to be a dream. The old man of the castle appeared behind the Beast, his moth-eaten black robes shaking with dust as he dragged his feet to the throne. He sank to his knees.
This is the future that I see, the old man said, his words more lucid than Eris had ever heard him speak. A king so blinded by vengeance that he does not see his inevitable failure.

Art from The Tempest and the Fire, my Beauty and the Beast retelling. This painting fought me every step of the way, and I’m so glad that I’ve managed to finish it.
Hope you all had a good December and have a happy new year!

Themes like abandonment, being a highly talented outsider and therefor being used and abused as well as the star-crossed lovers trope are interwoven in this heart-breaking story.

BRIGHT (Netflix 2017)
Thirsty for Orcs and Elves? That movie has lots!
Thanks to @ever-hungry-aria who brought it to my attention.
I’m not entirely uncritical of this movie but it features one of my all time favourite scenarios in the science fiction and fantasy genre: A society where different species live together.
heyyy so. i went into this movie expecting a really cute fishy romance, which it. almost was. but i had no idea there was gonna be extremely graphic, gratuitous violence, a hell of a lot of nudity and sex scenes (one dude literally fucks his wife on screen which was a lot), and a cat gets eaten on screen.
the cat thing was the most upsetting, the rest was just either really awkward or unsettling. but, yeah. i had no idea about any of that, and was kind of unnerved coming out of the film.
please be careful if you plan on seeing this movie. it’s not a bad movie, but i’ll admit i was really put off.
Yeah seriously! It was really really good, but I had a panic attack after the film because it was so stressful, and an employee had to literally hold my hand and lead me out of the theatre step by step, because I had such a bad shutdown …
Movie, here I come!!! Can’t wait to see it…which will be in February in my part of the world :(((
By the time I get to see it in cinemas I’ll probably have pieced the whole movie together via tumblr gif sets.
