NIGHT’S MASTER (Tales from the Flat Earth # 1) by Tanith Lee
NIGHT’S MASTER is the first book of the stunning arabesque high fantasy series Tales from the Flat Earth, which, in the manner of The One Thousand and One Nights, portrays an ancient world in mythic grandeur via connected tales.
Long time ago when the Earth was Flat, beautiful indifferent Gods lived in the airy Upperearth realm above, curious passionate demons lived in the exotic Underearth realm below, and mortals were relegated to exist in the middle. Azhrarn, Lord of the Demons and the Darkness, was the one who ruled the Night, and many mortal lives were changed because of his cruel whimsy. And yet, Azhrarn held inside his demon heart a profound mystery which would change the very fabric of the Flat Earth forever…
Come within this ancient world of brilliant darkness and beauty, of glittering palaces and wondrous elegant beings, of cruel passions and undying love.
Discover the exotic wonder that is the Flat Earth.

I strongly second this recommendation. 😍 I’ve decided that each of the ‘Tales from the Flat Earth’ books will get it’s own post.
Very sensual, reminiscent of 1001 nights, featuring a wide cast of characters over the course of 5 books but always returning to beautiful and casually cruel Azhrarn, Lord of Demons who occasionally has a soft spot for humanity.
While the reylo vibe is not as strong in the first of this series it will still make you fall in love with Tanith Lee’s creation and her characters.

Yes, I’m aware that this is the author who holds a controversial opinion about Kylo Ren’s redemption arc. ANYWAY let’s separate the art from the artist because this book definitely has strong REYLO VIBES.
A girl of mysterious descent awakening to her strange powers and a beautiful but incredibly destructive god complete with a redemption arc must work together to gain their freedom and become their true selves. I mean….

I just wanted to recommend this series. 😀 I was hesitant at first…(I know it isn’t exactly similar to Star Wars, but I noticed someone recommended Scarlet Heart Ryeo.~ sooo) If you get the chance check it out. 🙂
War has its cost, and the Servants of the Bright Heart and the Servants of the Dark Heart have been locked in a struggle that has defined life—and death—for millennia. But the end is coming, and only the Lady who has served the Bright Heart for the whole of her immortal life has seen it, in a vision that spans time and demands the highest of prices.
Thanks @k10c2 for the recommendation!

A captivating tale that reveals the healing power of duty and honour, love and honey.

I guess this is one of Robin McKinley’s lesser known books. A dreamlike story that features a romance between a young woman who’s really good with bees and a man who’s not quite human anymore.

fuck-yeah-monsters-and-villains:
UPROOTED by Naomi Novik
Our Dragon doesn’t eat the girls he takes, no matter what stories they tell outside our valley. We hear them sometimes, from travelers passing through. They talk as though we were doing human sacrifice, and he were a real dragon. Of course that’s not true: he may be a wizard and immortal, but he’s still a man, and our fathers would band together and kill him if he wanted to eat one of us every ten years. He protects us against the Wood, and we’re grateful, but not that grateful.”
Agnieszka loves her valley home, her quiet village, the forests and the bright shining river. But the corrupted Wood stands on the border, full of malevolent power, and its shadow lies over her life.
Her people rely on the cold, driven wizard known only as the Dragon to keep its powers at bay. But he demands a terrible price for his help: one young woman handed over to serve him for ten years, a fate almost as terrible as falling to the Wood.
The next choosing is fast approaching, and Agnieszka is afraid. She knows—everyone knows—that the Dragon will take Kasia: beautiful, graceful, brave Kasia, all the things Agnieszka isn’t, and her dearest friend in the world. And there is no way to save her.
But Agnieszka fears the wrong things. For when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he will choose.

Reblogging the first entry of my blog. This book more or less was the incentive to start blogging about villains and monsters. @metamashina mentioned it on their first episode of their podcast and it made me very happy that finally someone was talking about exactly the kind of fiction I’m interested in. So thank you for inspiring me!
While lurking in the Star Wars fandom I’ve seen Reylos recommending stuff to each other but it was always sporadic and unorganized. Why was no one running a recommendations blog for stuff that is similar to the reylo dynamic? Why was no one blogging about exactly the things I’m interested in? Whyyyyy? Oh. Ok. Guess I have to do it. Story of this blog. 😊
Also read this book! Capable heroine, grumpy, but sexy wizard, creepy woods, elements of Polish folklore and graphic depictions of female friendschip…
