WOLF CHILDREN (2013)

After her werewolf lover unexpectedly dies in an accident, a woman must find a way to raise the werewolf son and daughter that she had with him. But their inheritance of their father’s traits proved to be a challenge for her. (IMBD)

Their love story in short:

And then he dies…

BUT!

It’s just the first part of the story.

Hana’s struggle to keep her children safe and give them a chance to truly be themselves is one of the most beautiful and heart wrenching stories I’ve seen in recent years. Seriously, I was crying almost throughout the whole film. The story concludes on an melancholy yet uplifting note and if you are not a snivelling mess by the end of it YOU HAVE NO HEART.

TANK GIRL

by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin

From the Wikipedia page:

The eponymous character Tank Girl (Rebecca Buck – later revealed to have been born as Fonzie Rebecca Buckler) drives a tank, which is also her home. She undertakes a series of missions for a nebulous organization before making a serious mistake and being declared an outlaw for her sexual inclinations and her substance abuse. The comic centres on her misadventures with her boyfriend, Booga, a mutant kangaroo.

I loved this comic as a teen. Post-apocalyptic setting, punk, anarchy, violence, beer, drugs and mutant kangaroo boyfriends left quite an impression on my young mind. 🙂

Oh and they also made a movie which is …bla bla….not nearly as good as the comic….bla bla….not even close to the source material….bla bla….something something…..valid film criticism….bla.

Anyway, on its own the movie is still a fun romp and quite a crazy experience in itself. Oh, and they kept the interspecies mutant kangaroo stuff. 🙂

I remember reading Tank Girl in the long defunct Deadline magazine. I always had a great deal of sympathy for Booga as he never appeared to end up in Tank Girl’s arms despite doing everything she asked of him.

Awww, poor Booga. You are right though. But back then I didn’t consider his feelings. I was completely awed by how uncompromising and extremely self confident Tank Girl was (spoiler: everything I was not).

ALIEN VS. PREDATOR (2004)

This is by far my favorite of all the movies featuring Aliens or Predators or Aliens vs. Perdators. Is it the best? Probably not but I don’t really give a fuck about the general film criticism concerning this movie. For me it’s the most entertaining product of this combined franchise.

It’s also one of the coolest interspecies collaborations to defeat a common enemy I’ve ever seen on screen and the most romantic. Yes, you heard that right. 😉

I mean look: On their first date he’s making a weapon for her. They are equals, they slaughter the Aliens together. How can you not ship that?

After decimating the Alien population together their blossoming relationship  unfortunately comes to an aprupt end. If you don’t want to be spoiled completely don’t watch this clip.

So sad, so romantic, they are like interstellar Romeo and Juliet. Ok, not really but I shed one or two tears every time I watch that scene.

ENEMY MINE (1985)

War between humanity and the space lizard people:
A human soldier (Dennis Quaid) and a genderless alien (Louis Gosett junior) are stranded on a dangerous planet together where they have to rely on each other for survival. Their relationship goes from enemies to epic bromance to starting a family.❤❤❤
Yes, this movie is real and it’s wonderful.

DRACULA (1979)

This movie might be one of the earliest attempts to consciously depict Dracula as sexy, seductive and desirable. Almost all men in this film are more or less bumbling idiots whereas the count is suave, worldly and attractive.
The blood sucking (sex) is highly erotic and consensual. This movie was actively catering to the female gaze in 1979 (!).
